Television (TV) is a widely used telecommunication medium for transmitting and receiving moving images, either monochromatic ("black and white") or color, usually accompanied by sound. "Television" may also refer specifically to a television set, television programming or television transmission. The word is derived from mixed Latin and Greek roots, meaning "far sight": Greek tele (τῆλε), far, and Latin visio, sight (from video, vis- to see, or to view in the first person). Commercially available since the late 1930s, the television set has become common in homes, businesses and institutions, particularly as a source of entertainment and news. Since the 1970s the availability of video cassettes, laserdiscs, DVDs and now Blu-ray Discs, have resulted in the television set frequently being used for viewing recorded as well as broadcast material. Although other forms such as closed-circuit television (CCTV) are in use, the most common usage of the medium is for broadcast television, which was modeled on the existing radio broadcasting systems developed in the 1920s, and uses high-powered radio-frequency transmitters to broadcast the television signal to individual TV receivers. Broadcast TV is typically disseminated via radio transmissions on designated channels in the 54–890 megahertz frequency band. Signals are now often transmitted with stereo and/or surround sound in many countries. Until the 2000s broadcast TV programs were generally recorded and transmitted as an analog signal, but in recent years public and commercial broadcasters have been progressively introducing digital television broadcasting technology. A standard television set comprises multiple internal electronic circuits, including those for receiving and decoding broadcast signals. A visual display device which lacks a tuner is properly called a monitor, rather than a television. A television system may use different technical standards such as digital television (DTV) and high-definition television (HDTV). Television systems are also used for surveillance, industrial process control, and guiding of weapons, in places where direct observation is difficult or dangerous. Amateur television (ham TV or ATV) is also used for experimentation, pleasure and public service events by amateur radio operators. Ham TV stations were on the air in many cities before commercial TV stations came on the air. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License television? Q. Is television the Drug of the Nation? Asked by one happy hippy... - Fri Jul 11 06:48:36 2008 - - 20 Answers - 0 Comments A. One of the many, I'm afraid. It is laughably easy to sit in front of the tube, day after day, for hours on end and live vicariously through the characters on the screen. Children do it...they emulate what they see, their play is filled with super heroes and such. Women do it, knowing their favorite soap characters most intimate details as well as they know the contents of their own closets, and more, they debate and squabble over the happenings on these shows. Reality/game shows, where the success of a contestant/candidate is dependent upon a viewer forming a bond with and voting for one above another, regardless of the persons merit. Media, in all its forms, is addictive...how unfortunate it is that we, and yes I am including myself, must… [cont.] Answered by aidan402 - Fri Jul 11 07:12:04 2008 How many television cable service providers are available in the Philippines? Q. I want to be able to keep up with ESPN and the sports in the USA. I just seem to get TURBO, Solar Sports and some basketball games from the past. Television seems to be lacking something here. Asked by The Dogfather - Sat Dec 12 20:44:03 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. for the entire Philippines it is more than a handful, you can inquire from National Telecommunications Commission for the exact distribution of franchise. However in Metro Manila, there is Skycable, Global Destiny, Dream Satellite, and Cignal Direct Satellite which is owned by PLDT. There could be more but these are the known ones. I believe Destiny has ESPN. Answered by chinaman - Sun Dec 13 11:30:51 2009 How can I get television broadcasted to a room without a cable jack?

You said that you have a computer right and want to buy a TV to do all this, how about watching TV from your own computer wouldn't that be cool. Well you can do this head over to Radio Shack and ask them about it. They have tons of products. Or you can try this website I found for direct tv.
