Its name in English ( / ˈ juː /) is pronounced u; the plural is ues, though this is rare. HistoryThe letter U ultimately comes from the Semitic letter Waw by way of the letter Y. See the letter Y for details. During the late Middle Ages, two forms of "v" developed, which were both used for its ancestor u and modern v. The pointed form "v" was written at the beginning of a word, while a rounded form "u" was used in the middle or end, regardless of sound. So whereas valor and excuse appeared as in modern printing, "have" and "upon" were printed haue and vpon. The first distinction between the letters "u" and "v" is recorded in a Gothic alphabet from 1386, where "v" preceded "u". By the mid-1500s, the "v" form was used to represent the consonant and "u" the vowel sound, giving us the modern letter "u". Capital "U" was not accepted as a distinct letter until many years later. UsageU is commonly associated with the close back rounded vowel [u] found in many languages. This form is colloquially termed the "long u" in English. Q. My freind's hair is really fuzzy, thick, afro type and he uses relaxing creams & hair straightner machines. But during the day the back of the hair starts standing up, so my question is what can one use during the mornings for few weeks to keep hair straight, because he puts bit of water and wax everyday when he wakes but slowly starts fuzzing up again. A relaxer should only be used every 6 weeks at the SOONEST. it sounds to me that he needs to have better care for his hair at night. If it is a GOOD relaxer, his hair should lay and i find it best to tell my clients to wrap there hair at night like a beehive and tie it down with a simple scarf or du-rag. This keeps the hair straight and free of frizz while you are sleeping and it will fall beautifully in the morning. He may, however, also need a trim if he has been getting regular relaxers.
